TI wanted to drop a luxurious limited edition swimwear capsule to compliment my women’s collection. As always, I started by compiling my references, personal and cultural, to guide my design process.
For the swimwear capsule, I looked back to my summers spent in the South of France. Each Fourth of July, I used to stay at the Hotel Byblos in Saint-Tropez. I would sit in a cafe for hours and take pictures of people coming off the yachts and lounging on the beach, and then I’d return to New York with a report on what the Parisians, French and German were wearing.
There’s a certain atmosphere and attitude of the Byblos—extremely chic and very natural—that I wanted to capture and communicate in the swimwear. The gold hardware, a constant in my collection that I’ve used for buttons, belts and accessories, adds a luxurious element to the simplicity of the timeless black silhouettes.
